Dziga Vertov's "Man with a Movie Camera" is today internationally recognized as one of the greatest films of all time. However, this wasn't always the case. Upon its release in 1929, it was met with devastating criticism and misunderstanding. "Man with a Movie Camera," a film without words, actors, or a script, defied any boundaries—be they artistic or ideological. The plot follows a single day as a documentary cameraman in the new socialist country, but Vertov simultaneously explores the eternal questions of existence, juxtaposing life and death, past and present, in subtle montages.
